Air Greenland has evolved into one of the most respected airlines around the world. It has met the travel challenges unique to Greenland with an unparalleled track record within Arctic Travel.

Greenland is one-third the size of the USA with virtually no roads outside of towns and villages. Before the introduction of air travel, the only way to travel was by boat, foot or dogsled.

Given the rugged isolated terrain and polar weather conditions, the challenge of building a transportation infrastructure in Greenland is enormous.

In the 1960s, air transportation, and helicopters in particular, became the dominant mode of transport. So even though there are only 57,000 people in Greenland, the increase in passenger loads made it necessary to expand our service.

Since the late 1970s, our fleet has grown to include Dash 7 planes for domestic flights from 12 fixed-wing airports. We have the same number of routes as many major American carriers.

Today you will still find helicopters on many routes in Greenland. Air Greenland carries out its operations with 25 aircraft of which more than half are helicopters.

We have some of the world’s most respected pilots, together with one of the safest fleets in the air. As a result, Air Greenland’s planes and pilots are hired to do work all over the world, including Antarctica, Saudi Arabia and Mongolia – anywhere pilots with lots of experience in flying in remote mountainous areas are needed.
