City tour (part of the excursion package)

After check-in and a welcome briefing, you have the option to join a guided city tour that introduces you to Nuuk’s history, architecture, and everyday life – from the Colonial Harbor to modern cultural venues.

Following a brief information meeting with our local representative, you can join a guided city tour of the historic old town, where you’ll learn about Knud Rasmussen, the fishing culture, and everyday life in the town shaped by ice.

Walking Among Giants (optional add-on)

In the afternoon, you may consider Walking Among Giants, a guided snowmobile excursion through the frozen side fjord, where you literally walk among towering, ice-locked icebergs. It’s an experience that combines speed, silence, and breathtaking Arctic scenery.

The evening includes dinner in the lodge, storytelling, and – weather permitting – Northern Lights viewing under the Arctic night sky. You spend the night in a real snow igloo, an experience you won’t soon forget.

Day 4:
Optional dog sledding. Return from Igloo Lodge. Optional visit with sled dogs

Dog sledding (optional add-on)

Feel the wind on your face and hear nothing but the sound of the sled runners and the dogs’ paws in the snow – a journey back in time and tradition. There are three guests per sled.
After the excursion, you return to Ilulissat.

Meet the sled dogs (part of the excursion package)

In the afternoon, you can visit the Greenlandic sled dogs – an authentic experience where you get close to the animals and learn about their importance to life in the Arctic.
The rest of the day is free for your own activities, perhaps with a walk along the Yellow or Blue Trail.

Day 5:
At your own pace or Sermermiut hike and Icefjord cruise

Today, you can go out on your own or go on excursions.

Hike to Sermermiut (part of the excursion package)

The day begins with a guided hike to Sermermiut – a historic settlement site with more than 4,000 years of human history. You walk along wooden boardwalks through the Arctic landscape, ending with a breathtaking view over Ilulissat Icefjord. It is a place where silence speaks and where the past feels remarkably close.

Icefjord cruise (part of the excursion package)

Later in the day, an unforgettable cruise among the iconic icebergs awaits – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You glide silently between towering formations and gain a new appreciation for the power and beauty of ice.

Jason C. Hill - Visit Greenland
Day 6:
Relaxation and time at leisure

After several days of Arctic adventures, this day is dedicated to relaxation and personal exploration. You might choose to unwind at the hotel, enjoy the view from your Aurora Cabin, take a final walk along the Yellow Trail, or visit one of the town’s museums.

It is the perfect opportunity to reflect on the many impressions of the journey and enjoy Ilulissat at your own pace. The evening may be rounded off with a farewell dinner and time to absorb the memories of your Arctic adventure.

Aurora Cabin at Hotel Arctic

The Northern Lights cabins at Hotel Arctic offer a magnificent, unobstructed view of the fjord, where icebergs drift by in a calm and steady rhythm. Here, you stay close to nature — and with a bit of luck, you may watch the sparkling northern lights dance across the sky right outside the panoramic windows.

The cabins are just a short walk from the main building and are designed specifically for Arctic conditions. With 20 furnished square meters, they are compact yet thoughtfully arranged, providing everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay.

The cabins have a shower and toilet, reliable Wi-Fi, and a modern iPad system that lets you control lighting, sound, and temperature to suit your preferences. Warmth comes from water-circulated underfloor heating and additional interior wall heating — a welcome contrast to the crisp Arctic air outside.
