Day program

Mads Pihl - Visit Greenland
Day 1:
Direct flight from Copenhagen to Nuuk – Greenland’s capital awaits.

Your journey begins at Copenhagen Airport as you set off for the Great North, landing in Nuuk after a 4.5-hour flight. Even from the air, you’ll start to see the dramatic Greenlandic landscape take shape – fjords, ice floes, and colorful houses clinging to rocky cliffs. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by our local partner and transferred to the centrally located Hotel HHE Express – a modern, eco-certified hotel where comfort meets sustainability.

After check-in and a welcome meeting, you can explore Greenland’s vibrant capital.

Nuuk on your own

During a walk around Nuuk, we suggest a visit to the Colonial Harbour and the National Museum, as well as the many other beautiful buildings in the area, including the Parliament building.

Afterwards, you can relax at one of the city’s cosy cafés overlooking the fjord, and in the evening there are plenty of restaurants to choose from.

Day 2:
Sail through the fjord landscape to Camp Kangiusaq

After breakfast, one of the tour’s most magical experiences awaits – a scenic boat ride deep into Nuuk Fjord. As you travel through the world’s second-largest fjord system, you’ll pass by sharp mountain peaks and may even spot playful seals or glimpses of humpback whales breaking the surface.

Upon arrival at Camp Kangiusaq, you’ll be welcomed by the camp guide and shown to your cozy glamping tent. Each tent features real beds, warm blankets, and a private terrace with sweeping views of the fjord.

In the afternoon, choose from a variety of activities: try a kayak or paddleboard and glide across the calm waters among icebergs in all shapes and colors – or book a fishing trip and try your luck with rod and reel. Want to explore on your own? We provide trail maps and safety equipment, and our guides are happy to share their best tips on secret routes and the best spots to see wildlife.

As evening falls, gather in the cozy dining tent for a delicious meal made from fresh, local ingredients, lit by candlelight. It’s a sensory journey into the heart of stillness.

Day 3:
Farewell to the fjord – back to the city and culture

After a morning embraced by nature and perhaps one last coffee on your terrace, the boat takes you back to Nuuk.

On the return journey, take in the landscape one more time – perhaps with new eyes after your wilderness experience.

Back in the city, the afternoon is yours to explore Nuuk’s cultural life. Visit the Katuaq cultural center, explore the museums, or browse the charming boutiques for Greenlandic handicrafts. The city is full of life – a fascinating blend of modern Greenlandic daily life and deep-rooted traditions.

Day 4:
Nuuk on your own. Optional whale safari.

After breakfast, you have the whole day to explore Greenland’s capital at your own pace. You may already have walked around on your first day and gained a good overview of the city, so today you can focus on the places that interest you the most.

We recommend a visit to the National Museum of Greenland, where you can see the famous Qilakitsoq mummies and gain deeper insight into the country’s culture and history. Art enthusiasts will enjoy a visit to the Nuuk Art Museum, home to works by both Greenlandic and Nordic artists.

A great place for a break is Katuaq Cultural Centre, the city’s architectural landmark and a vibrant venue for music, film and exhibitions. Here, you can relax with a cup of coffee in the café and take in the atmosphere of the city.

Enjoy a walk through the Colonial Harbour, where historic buildings from the colonial era stand alongside modern architecture. In this area, you will also find small shops selling Greenlandic crafts and design.

Today, you also have the opportunity to join a whale-watching tour.

Whale Safari in Nuuk (extra add-on)

Experience the magnificent nature of Nuuk’s fjord system, where humpback whales play in the deep, clear waters. On this whale safari, you’ll come close to some of the ocean’s most impressive creatures – an encounter that, for many, becomes one of the absolute highlights of their journey.

Nuuk’s fjords are renowned for their diverse wildlife, featuring fish, reindeer, and whales. The fjords are deep – in some places up to 600 meters – providing ideal conditions for the whales to feed, move, and play.

During summer, the whales migrate from the Caribbean to Greenland to feast on krill and small fish. A fully grown humpback whale can reach up to 18 meters in length, weigh as much as 30 tons, and stay submerged for up to 38 minutes at a time.

You can recognize the whales by their distinctive hump-backed dorsal fin and their beautiful tail flukes, each with unique markings that allow for the identification of individual whales. When a humpback whale breaks the surface and lifts its tail, it’s a sight you will never forget.

In the evening, you can choose between several restaurants offering both Greenlandic specialities and international dishes.

Day 5:
Flight to Copenhagen

The journey comes to an end, and after breakfast, it’s time to head to the airport. You’ll fly directly from Nuuk to Copenhagen, hopefully with a suitcase full of souvenirs and a camera full of photos – but most importantly, with unforgettable memories of Greenland’s wild and wonderful fjord landscapes.
