Travel directly from Copenhagen with Air Greenland

The largest and busiest airport in Greenland is Kangerlussuaq Airport just north of the polar circle. This is the main traffic connection to Greenland and the perfect place to start your Greenland trip. You can get here by plane from Copenhagen all year round.

You can also take a plane directly from Copenhagen to Narsarsuaq Airport in Southern Greenland. But there are less weekly departures on this route and it isn’t operated all year.

Most travellers from Europe choose the direct, 4½ hours Air Greenland flight from Copenhagen, Denmark, to Kangerlussuaq Airport. They would often continue on the Air Greenland domestic flight network, which covers most of Greenland.

You can visit Air Greenlands homepage for more information.

Flights to Greenland from Iceland

Once you arrive at Keflavik Airport in Iceland from different global origins, there are various possibilities to continue to several places in Greenland from here.

You can continue your trip to Nuuk with Air Greenland as well as Air Iceland. Moreover, Air Iceland offers flights to Ittoqqortoormiit, Kulusuk, Narsarsuaq and Ilulissat. The flights depart either from Keflavik (International) or from Reykjavik Domestic Airport.

The most popular destinations in Greenland by plane from Iceland include:

  Nuuk Airport in Western Greenland

Ilulissat Airport in the Disco Bay in Western Greenland

  Narsarsuaq Airport in Southern Greenland

  Kulusuk Airport in Eastern Greenland

How to get to Nuuk Airport

If your destination is Greenland’s capitol, Nuuk, you can book non-stop flight tickets from Reykjavik or from several other origins globally via Iceland. There are no other direct flights to Greenland than from the Icelandic capitol, Reykjavik, because the runway in Nuuk is not long enough for bigger planes to land. Work to extend the runways in Nuuk and Ilulissat is being carried out, to accommodate larger aircrafts in the future. Currently, you can also get to Nuuk on a domestic flight from Kangerlussuaq with Air Greenland (all year), from Reykjavik/Keflavik to Nuuk Airport with Air Iceland or Air Greenland (part of the year).

Domestic flights in Greenland

By far most domestic flights in Greenland are operated by Air Greenland with their comfortable planes. You are either carried on fixed wing aircrafts to larger towns or by helicopters to smaller towns or settlements without runways.
