The Original New Year's Eve in Ilulissat in Greenland 2018/2019
PLEASE NOTE: Our New Year's Eve 2018 Trip to Ilulissat is sold out, but we still have vacancies on our Christmas Trip 2018. Read more here.
New Year’s Eve in Greenland is a unique experience. Not just because of the beautiful fireworks in the polar night, but also because you get to celebrate the New Year twice: At 20.00 for Denmark (and other CET countries) and at midnight for Greenland!
Greenland's nature is beautiful all year, not least in the wintertime. It is wonderful when it is covered by a blanket of snow and ice and that creates a myriad of opportunities under the northern lights. In this 5-day trip to Ilulissat, you will experience fireworks, northern lights, sled dogs, huge icebergs, and snow-covered rocks.
We offered this trip for the first time for the New Year of 2017/18, and it was a great success. Our guests loved the unique light you experience even though this is during the polar darkness of winter - and they were very impressed with the fireworks on New Year's Eve.
You will have the opportunity to either plan your Greenland vacation or buy our excursion package where we have collected four must-try experience for you. This involves, among other things, a fantastic boat trip to the huge icebergs at the mouth of Ilulissat lcefjord.
New Year's Eve in Greenland
On December 31, you will attend a gala dinner in the restaurant at Hotel lcefiord. We are invited to enjoy a lovely dinner with good food and entertainment - and some breaks at the right moments, so we can get to go outside to enjoy the fireworks several times during the evening.
Ilulissat lcefjord is UNESCO World Heritage Site
Ilulissat is located at the world famous Ilulissat lcefjord. The Icefjord was admitted to the UNESCO World Heritage Site List in 2004 and that is not a coincidence. The icebergs can tower up to 75 meters into the air and they are a sight you will never forget.
Under the flicker of the northern lights
Everybody loves the northern lights. We know that this sounds pretty boastful; it’s just that we have never met anyone who has not been impressed with the northern lights. When you stand outside on a frosty evening and see the fantastic northern lights moving across the sky, you, too, will be close to tears at seeing something this amazing and beautiful.
It's going to be warm inside
This being midwinter, it's going to be dusk most of the day and dark at night. Inside the hotel, we will have time to enjoy the central heating - and the guide will entertain with small lectures and quizzes about Greenland and we will also have time to play games.
"Now we have traveled with Greenland Travel twice and both times we chose a package tour with excursions booked in advance. It works perfectly. It can only be recommended!"L. Hansen, 2016, on Trustpilot
