Currency and payment cards
It is always important to find out about currency and methods of payment when travelling to other countries. On this page you can read about currency and payment cards in Greenland and Iceland.
Currency and payment cards in Greenland
Danish kroner are used in Greenland, and you can pay with the usual payment cards in most towns – excursions and souvenirs can also be paid for by card. You can withdraw cash in the larger towns.
We recommend that you always carry a little cash, especially if you want to buy a freshly caught fish at the harbour or visit a small workshop in a settlement.
Currency and payment cards in Iceland
Icelandic krónur are used in Iceland, and you can pay with all the usual payment cards and withdraw money from cash machines in the larger towns. Credit cards are very widely used in Iceland.
Always pay in the local currency when paying by debit or credit card. You will sometimes be asked whether you wish to settle in the local currency or in Danish kroner. It almost always pays to ask for the local currency.
