7 days with snow and ice in Kangerlussuaq and Sisimiut - perfect for children and grown ups! Are you looking for a unique winter vacation, this is the trip for you. Lots of snow, cold fresh air, dogsleds and northern lights!
Day program
Day 1
After arrival in Kangerlussuaq you are accommodated in the cozy Polar Lodge with large rooms and bathroom/toilet in the hallway. Afterwards there is an information meeting about the area and the many excursions possibilities. We recommend the musk ox safari which will give you an impression of the wonderful nature and landscape.
Day 2
The air is so clean and dry, so even if the temperature creeps down to minus 20 degrees, it does not feel so cold, and with the right clothes, it is actually a cleansing for the soul to breathe this air. The huge ice cap that surrounds Kangerlussuaq makes you feel very small. We definitely recommend a 5-hour trip to the immense ice cap. In the evening it is possible to take on a northern light trip out into the darkness.
Day 3
The flight to Sisimiut takes only 25 minutes. Remember to enjoy the scenery en route over the beautiful snow covered mountains. After check-in at Hotel Sisimiut the local guide welcomes you. You may want to take a town tour!
Day 4-6
The days can be spent enjoying the beautiful scenery and the wonderful winter Greenland best experienced from a dogsled! Dogsledding is possible at many levels, ranging from a few hours to entire days or more. The longer your trip is - the more you get out of it. Moreover it can definitely be recommended to rent one of the very warm dogsled outfits that completes the experience, because you can enjoy it without freezing! Another cultural experience is a local 'coffee visit' - an old tradition in Greenland, where you at birthdays and other events go visit people and enjoy a cup of coffee and cake. Sisimiut is located next to the sea and is free of ice year-round. So it is possible to go on a sailing trip. The abandoned settlement Assaqutaq is for example worth a visit with old and empty houses that welcome you in a strange and fascinating way.
Day 7
Filled with huge impressions and the fresh winter air the trip has come to an end and it is time to fly back to Kangerlussuaq and onwards to Copenhagen with arrival in the evening.
