THERE ARE NO MORE DEPARTURES THIS YEAR. | |
Kangerlussuaq is the gateway to Greenland.
The hinterland hides a fantastic scenery, where the huge inland ice with its very own life, sounds and cold awaits.
Are you looking for a trip that combines winter, great nature and culture, you have chosen the perfect trip - and if you are also looking for a trip that guarantees you endless beautiful pictures, you are sure of getting full value in Ilulissat.
Here you get ample opportunity to focus on icebergs, the fascinating ice fjord and thousands of sled dogs.
Day program
Day 1
Departure by plane from Copenhagen in the morning with arrival at Kangerlussuaq before lunch.
Accommodation at the cozy Polar Lodge, located 100 meters from the airport and a stone's throw from the shop - and not least the stunning scenery just outside the door.
Day 2
Day at your own disposal. Spend the time on excursions. We suggest a musk ox safari by bus or a tour around the former U.S. base including a visit to the museum. You should also try a trip up on the inland ice, which lies 25 km inland. It is a very special experience to stand on this gigantic ice cap, which is the size of all of Western Europe.
In the evening you can go on a northern light trip which can aptly be completed with a Greenlandic coffee, which surprises both the visual and taste senses.
Day 3-7
The trip is now proceeding with flight to Ilulissat. It is a beautiful flight of three quarters, where you can really enjoy the beautiful ice landscape, the desolate plains and greatness. If possible, then sit on the right side of the plane, so you can see both the inland ice and the amazing ice fjord shortly before arrival to Ilulissat.
Transfer and accommodation at Hotel Arctic, which offers an incomparable view. Then there is an information meeting where the local guide informs you about Ilulissat and the many optional excursions.
We suggest to start with a guided town tour Friday morning. You hear about the town’s history and experience the many exciting facets. You can not avoid seeing and especially hearing some of the many sled dog!. Most are outside the town at large dog areas.
The next day, there are many delightful excursions to choose from. We recommend an easy hike to Sermermiut. This trip can be done both with or without a guide, depending on temperament.
A trip on a dogsled is also a must. There are many options for every taste, from trips of one hour - just to try it - or trips to several days. It is a good idea to hire a sealskin outfit so you can enjoy the ride and the fantastic scenery to the full without freezing.
Also use the time to experience the atmosphere and life in the town, which has a mix of both modern town life and traditional lifestyle. Are there any open water, it is advisable to go for a walk in the thriving fishing port or over the open market, where the range of meat and fish all the time varies. You should not cheat yourself for a walk to the sewing workshop where they make exciting products in seal or to the craft shop-
And treat yourself with a dinner at a good restaurants, where you have the chance of tasting several local specialties.
Day 8
Return to Denmark. Departure from Kangerlussuaq around noon with arrival in Copenhagen in the evening.
