South Greenland's lush forest fjord!
You stay at a sheep farm and in two different settlements. From here you can go on some of the finest walks in the area with a perfect view of glaciers and icy fjords no matter where you look. Among sheep and ruins you walk on your own from place to place and three times on the trip a modern excursion boat takes over Tunulliarfik /the forest fjord.
Day program
Day 1
Upon arrival in Narsarsuaq, there is an information meeting and then boat transfer to Qassiarsuk, the place where Erik the Red settled in year 982. The ruins from the Norse period is not large, but the beautiful reconstructions more than compensates for it. Today the 50 inhabitants live mainly from sheep farming, but there is also a school, a church and a shop in the small settlement.
Day 2
From Qassiarsuk you walk west towards the sheep farm Tasiusaq by the icy Bredefjord. The trip goes through a green landscape studded with small, blue lakes. Remember to look up sometimes, because there are good chances of seeing the impressive white-tailed eagle hovering over your head!
Day 3
You walk to the sheep farm Inneruulalik situated right above the mouth of Qooroq Fjord. The trip is about 9 km. Inneruulalik is pure idyll!
A lush spot in an overwhelming nature and spiced with a Greenlandic family's hospitality you will get unforgettable an experience.
Day 4
At noon, a boat brings you from Inneruulalik to Itilleq, the landing site of the settlement Igaliku. You walk the 3 km on the King's way to Igaliku - maybe Greenland's most beautiful settlement!
The scattered stone houses are located in a protected, lush area in the bottom of a very blue fjord surrounded by stark barren mountains.
Day 5
There are many incredibly nice walks in the area but we still recommend one: The trip along the river up to Lake 90 and further up on the plateau. From here there is a spectacular view of the mouth of Qooroq fjord with all the stranded icebergs on the moraine and the mighty glacier at the bottom of the fjord. If you instead want to mount a manageable top, Nuluk (823 m) waits for you.
Day 6
You have most of the day available for another hike. If you are an experienced hiker, you can do the "Waterfall tour" - a number of waterfalls, which come down to Eric's Fjord. Then there is boat transfer from Itilleq to Narsarsuaq.
Day 7
On the last day it is possible to walk to Narsarsuaq Glacier, which is part of the inland ice. It runs through the Flower Valley and 300 meters up a path to a plateau from which there is an impressive view over the glacier. From here there is a half hour walk down to the ice. The ascent is relatively hard, but with many breaks, most make it.
Day 8
You have the morning free for one last trip into the mountains or maybe a visit to Narsarsuaq Museum. There is departure to Denmark early afternoon.

There are kitchen facilities in all hostels. There are small shops in Qassiarsuk, Igaliku and Narsarsuaq.
