Disko Bay is an Eldorado for the daring and adventurous, but also for those who enjoy life. Here you’ll find icefjords, icebergs, glaciers, sled dogs and enormous stretches of untouched mountainous terrain. Kangerlussuaq is the prefect starting point for trips to the Inland Ice Cap.
Day 1, Monday
Flight from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq. Accommodation at the hostel. The rest of the day is at leisure.
Days 2-3, Tuesday - Wednesday
In the summer, Kangerlussuaq is often very warm. Go to the edge of the inland ice which rises like a white wall in the green landscape, or try a musk-ox safari. Also, take a walk in the remote terrain.
Day 4, Thursday
Flight to Ilulissat and accommodation at the hostel. The hostel is located in the center of town.
Days 5-6, Friday-Saturday
Days at leisure in Ilulissat. The active glacier produces 20 million tons of icebergs each day and flows into the 50 km long ice fjord. It is possible by helicopter to get up to see the place where the glacier calves. Go on a boat trip to one of the settlements or to the Eqi glacier and spend the night in a cosy camp.
Day 7, Sunday
Sail across Disko Bay to Qeqertarsuaq on Disko Island. During the trip you encounter the enormous icebergs and possibly whales and seals.
Days 8-9, Monday - Tuesday
Qeqertarsuaq is a good starting point for hiking, e.g. to the Lyngmark glacier, where you can take a dogsled ride. The view is fantastic in clear weather.
Day 10, Wednesday
Boat back to Ilulissat. Accommodation at the hostel.
Day 11-12, Thursday-Friday
Departure from Ilulissat to Kangerlussuaq with arrival ca. 14 pm. You have the after noon at your disposal before you take off to Copenhagen in the evening.
Day 13, Saturday
Very early arrival in Copenhagen this morning.
