8 amazing days in Ilulissat and Kangerlussuaq
The contrasts in Greenland are coming to their right during the summer months. Strong sunlight is replaced by foggy mist. Brown mountains with hints of green are fighting a brave battle against icebergs in shades ranging from pale to turquoise. Deserted, pristine areas right next to the towns with the characteristic houses in bright colors. The light is also unique. And with the midnight sun's soft glow around the clock the forces of nature comes very close!
Pull out 8 days of your calendar and join us on this trip to the inland ice in Kangerlussuaq and the Ilulissat ice fjord and combine rest and relaxation with fantastic natural and cultural experiences.
Day program
Day 1
Flight from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq at noon with arrival almost at the same time because of the 4 hour time difference. Accommodation is in the cozy Polar Lodge located a few steps from the airport itself, and nearby the shop - and a glance from the magnificent landscape. Immediately after check-in there will be an information meeting about the exciting area.
A trip up on the inland ice, which is located 25 miles inland, will complete the journey.
It is amazing to stand so close to the massive ice cap. And even more special to step up on it and feel nature's forces.
Day 2
Flight from Kangerlussuaq to Ilulissat. Enjoy the breathtaking view during the flight. This is grand!
Accommodation at Hotel Arctic, which has an incredible view over the town and the fjord.
Information meeting, where the local guide informs about Ilulissat and the many optional excursions and follows up on the pre-booked excursions.
In the evening a welcome dinner at the hotel is included.
Day 3-7
The days are at your own disposal, and there are many excellent excursions to choose from.
Start for example with a town tour and then an easy hike to the former settlement Sermermiut located with direct view over the ice fjord. The trip can be done both with or without a guide.
A boat trip out into the fjord, where you get close to the huge icebergs – a lifetime experience. Wherever you go, you can not avoid seeing and especially hearing the many sled dogs.
Treat yourself with a dinner at one of the good restaurants, where you get the chance of tasting several local specialties. Try a Greenlandic buffet - including locally brewed beer (brewed on the ice!) and many other specialties.
If you are looking for an ultimate stay, you must take a trip to the Ice Camp Eqi.
Here in the middle of the great nature, just 2 miles from a constantly active, calving glacier a small camp with only 11 cabins pops up. The view is totally undescribable.
The trip ends with a dinner on the last evening in Ilulissat.
Day 8
Return to Denmark with a few hours' stay in Kangerlussuaq, before the flight departs in the evening to Copenhagen with arrival the next morning.
