Ilulissat, birthplace of icebergs. Kangerlussuaq, easy access to the Inland Ice Cap. Pure Relaxation in Majestic Greenland!

“Ilulissat” is the Greenlandic world for icebergs.
This comes as no surprise to anyone who has been to the town bearing this name. The town is beautifully situated at the mouth of the 40-kilometre long ice-fjord of Kangia, filled as it is with enormous icebergs produced by the most productive glacier in the Northern Hemisphere. Ilulissat and Kangia are situated 350 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, and as of 2004,  the Kangia area is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

4,000 people and at least 5,000 sledge dogs live in Ilulissat.
This is an eloquent statement of the importance of the dogsled as a means of transport, even in a large modern town as Ilulissat. The harbour is filled with fishing vessels and trawlers that bear witness to the great importance of fishing in the area.

Day-to-day program

Day 1 – Thursday
Departure with Air Greenland from Copenhagen to Ilulissat. After arrival, transfer to place of accommodation for check-in. After check-in, information meeting about optional excursion. A welcome dinner will be served this first evening.

Day 2-5 - Friday-Monday
Day at leisure or optional excursions. In February, March and April, dogsledding is the main choice for excursions, but also boat tours are available if the ice conditions allow for it.

Summertime offers wonderful boat tours and whalesafaris. A trip to the Eqi glacier is recommended. Autumn is a nice season for shorter walking tours and sailing tours are the main options for excursions.

Helicopter tours to the world-famous Kangia glacier are available all year.  Farewell dinner on Monday night.

Day 6, Tuesday, departure for Kangerlussuaq
Departure with Air Greenland from Ilulissat to Kangerlussaq. Transfer to place of accommodation. Check in at Hotel Kangerlussuaq for 2 nights, followed by an informationmeeting. We recommend to start your stay in Kangerlussuaq with a musk ox safari or a guided city tour. Excursions can be booked in advance either before departure or in Ilulissat.

Day 7 – Wednesday, The Inland Ice Cap
We recommend a trip to the ice cap. Only 30 km from the airport the Icecap raises and you can either choose to drive to the Russel glacier with the  impressing wall of ice, or to the point 660 where you can walk on the icecap.

Day 8, Thursday, departure for Copenhagen
Departure with Air Greenland from Kangerlussuaq to to Copenhagen. You arrive in Copenhagen in the evening.
