Tour 1141: The dream travel in the Disko Bay

12 amazing days in hotel or hostel!

On this tour you will first visit Kangerlussuaq where you have the opportunity to see musk oxen and the ice cap. Then the trip continues to Ilulissat, which offers a wealth of different experiences, not least the world famous ice fjord.

Ice Camp Eqi is extremely beautifully located with view directly to the calving glacier. Here we offer you very nice cabin comfort out in the wild with great food! This beautiful area provides for both short and longer hikes, and the view from your balcony and the sound of the thundering glacier will never leave you!

The old whaling settlement Oqaatsut - or Rodebay - is a small idyllic settlement with 40 inhabitants who live by hunting and fishing as generations have done before them. Only great experiences await!

Day program

Day 1
Upon arrival in Kangerlussuaq, you will be greeted by a guide that helps you check-in at the Polar Lodge and holds an information meeting about the area. Kangerlussuaq offers many opportunities and we recommend a bus trip to the ice cap or a trip out hunting musk oxen - with the camera.

Day 2-4
Then the trip continues to Ilulissat. There will also in Ilulissat be an information meeting after check-in at the chosen accommodation. Ilulissat is the Greenlandic word for icebergs. It is beautifully situated at the mouth of the 50-kilometer-long and world-famous ice fjord, which in 2004 was admitted to the World Heritage Site. The ice is nothing less than amazing. Knud Rasmussen's hometown offers a wealth of experiences in the town, in settlements, out on the water and walking in the mountains. You now have two days to experience the town before heading north to Eqi.

Day 5-7
None of the guests who over the past decade has lived in a the 'Ice Camp Eqi', which lies at the Eqi glacier about 80 miles north of Ilulissat, has been in doubt: It must be one of the prettiest places in Greenland!

Fine hiking trips are offered in the area, and if you want the 2-day hiking trip up the ice cap with accommodations in tents, we gladly arrange the trip for you.

Day 7-8
The beautiful old red colonial buildings in the small settlement Oqaatsut today forms the framework for housing and the little restaurant, H8, whose reputation has reached far and wide. During the stay in Oqaatsut you are on full board in H8. Enjoy the lovely and relaxed atmosphere in the settlement - and remember to notice the silence. The boat to Ilulissat does not sail until early evening after a good dinner, so you have all day available in the on this beautiful spot.

If you have the courage to trudge far, you can take a nice hiking trip from Oqaatsut to Ilulissat. The trip is 22 kilometers and takes 5-8 hours. It is a popular and demanding trip.

Day 9-11
Back in town! You now have three more days. The last 5 years large numbers of humpback whales have each summer stayed in the Disko Bay, and as they are not hunted, they simply enjoy life playing, eating and lazing near the excursion boat. Another of those experiences that might tempt on the dream trip to Greenland.

Day 12
The Greenland adventure has come to an end, and you fly from Ilulissat to Kangerlussuaq and from there on to Kastrup Airport, where you arrive early next morning.
