| A weekend in Kangerlussuaq is an adventure by the ice cap and north of the Polar Circle.
The Kangerlussuaq area is the only inhabited place in Greenland, which is not situated by the coast, resulting in a very settled climate. Obviously, this is the reason why the airport was placed here by the Americans during WWII.
|
Day 1, Friday, arrival in Kangerlussuaq by the Ice cap Departure from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq with arrival at 10:00 AM. The flight from Copenhagen is 4, 5 hours with the modern plains from Air Greenland.
Check in at Hotel Kangerlussuaq***. The hotel is suitable for both small and large conferences and meetings.
| Days 2-3 Saturday-Sunday, great adventures There are plenty of activities during these days.
Musk oxen photo safari On the photo safari you will not only get to see musk oxen but may also have a chance to encounter caribou, mountain hares, polar foxes, grouse, and ravens. We will also stop by the museum and the scientific research station Kellyville. |
| Aurora Borealis When night falls you will get to experience the exceptional aurora borealis. While we watch these northern lights dance in the sky, the guide will explain this natural phenomenon.
Trip to the Ice Cap We will drive to the Inland Ice Cap and the Russel Glacier in specially constructed vehicles. The tour takes you through arctic desert and glacier landscape with traces from the last Ice Age.
The tour is one of the most popular excursions for visitors in Greenland. There is a very good chance of spotting musk oxen and reindeers as well.
Activity Day Along the coast of the Kangerlussuaq Fjord a fishing camp is erected. The camp has heated tents with tables and benches (the latter covered with caribou pelts) and you will be served hot and cold drinks, soup, food, candy, etc.
During the activity day, you have the opportunity to try · Dogsledding (an obvious must). Enjoy the beautiful nature and the fresh air. You will feel warm in your sealskin clothing. · Snowmobile rides. You will race though the landscape at high speed. · Ride in full-track vehicle. It’s an enjoyable way to be together with your travel companions. · Ice fishing contest. Check your skills, patience and luck!
All travelers will be dressed in warm ski suits and polar boots so no-one will be cold.
Day 4, Monday, departure for Copenhagen Departure for Copenhagen. Arrival in Copenhagen in the early evening. |
