EXCURSIONS RECOMMENDED

Cruise with a stunning view!

With MS Fram, you now have a unique opportunity to take on an cruise to the Svalbard archipelago, where huge nature experiences almost fall over each other. Seize - and enjoy - the rugged, unspoilt nature and unique wildlife with the polar bear as the absolute peak. The glow of the midnight sun gives the beautiful landscape an almost supernatural glow. A fantastic trip for new as well as old Arctic acquaintances of the beautiful ship Fram. Arctic nature experience in comfortable frames.

Day program

Day 1
On arrival at Longyearbyen a guide welcomes you and will help you with the transfer to the comfortable Radisson SAS Polar Hotel Spitsbergen. The rest of the afternoon is at your own disposal before full program day 2.

Day 2
After breakfast, a welcome meeting is held at the hotel. After lunch a guide takes you on a sightseeing trip including the fine Svalbard museum which informs about Arctic history, mining, scientific research and wildlife. Late afternoon it is time to board Fram and set out through the fjord. In the evening we land at the Russian mining town Barentsburg with Folklore Show in the cultural centre.

Day 3
We arrive at the beautiful fjord Horn Sound with rough mountains and steep cliffs and make landing at either Gåshamna or Gnålodden. On board there will be lectures. Later on the day we will enjoy the stunning scenery at Brepollen, located at the bottom of the 25 kilometer deep fjord, where almost the entire area is surrounded by spectacular glaciers. Alternatively we cruise in Burgerbukta with almost vertical mountain walls, and because of calving glaciers in all Hornsund's side inlets there are often much ice on the water.

Day 4
During the night we have sailed south to one of Svalbard's southernmost islands Bjørnøya. At the southern tip of the island, we look at the famous bird cliff 'Stappen', which is home to hundreds of thousands of guillemots, which nest here during the Arctic summer. Onboard lectures on Svalbard birdlife are held. During the afternoon we sail north again. On the road we pass an area with good chances of spotting whales, as several different species travel north and take advantage of the Gulf Stream larder. The most common whales in the water in Svalbard are fin, humpback and minke whales.

Day 5
Bell Sound awaits - a typical fjord on Svalbard's west coast. The fjord divides into two large fjord arms, and the area is characterized by high mountains with diverse and visible geological formations. We will try to make a landing at Ahlstrand's "peninsula" or Calypso town. We continue the cruise towards the beautiful Vårsolbukta, named after a vessel that was used by the Norwegian Svalbard expedition in 1914. In the bay there are guilllemots, Svalbard reindeer and cultural sites after the new industrialization.

Day 6
Today's target is the famous Magdalene Fjord, one of Svalbard's most beautiful fjords located in the northwestern corner of Spitsbergen. We land at Gravneset, which is surrounded by majestic mountains, high glacier fronts and magnificent scenery. On the site there is an old cemetery with an interesting history of whaling. We continue to the walrus colony Moffen. Depending on the ice conditions, the ship attempts to reach 80 degrees north. In case the ice does not allow us to get close to Moffen, we will instead be close to the ice and look for wildlife.

Day 7
Sailing into the Kross fjord. The plan is to visit the Lilliehöök glacier and put the small boats into the water to take a boat trip along the magnificent glacier front. In the afternoon we arrive in Ny-Ålesund - the world's most northerly inhabited place. The town is primarily home to various research units of different nationalities, but also contains much history of coal mining and particularly various more or less successful expeditions to the North Pole.

Day 8
During the night the course is set towards the ice fjord. We sail in the Forlan Sound and pass the St Jons fjord. Arrival at Skansbukta early afternoon, where there is opportunity for landing before the chef invites us all to a barbecue event on the deck. This is the last evening in these fantastic surroundings and a nice end to an eventful journey. During the night we sail to Longyearbyen, where we arrive at 02:00 Wednesday morning.

Day 9
Farewell to the ship and crew, and transfer to the airport.
